Texture Series

After Stevie’s brain injury she realized she had a hard time inventing colors in her mind. She became obsessed with creating high contrast black and white art allowing her mind to play between the two extremes. Setting the canvas on the ground as the action painters did, Stevie began pouring layers of black and white acrylic paint over a textured medium that gave the canvases a sculptural appearance. The layers are poured individually and then allowed to dry creating a very slow process. Each canvas in this 45 piece series took several days, weeks and sometimes months to complete.
